2017-2018 was a boom year for retail construction – we had “Two Double Seven’, “Tauriko”, “Sylvia Park”, “Bay Fair” and all the Westfields that you can think of. CPL painted over 100 shop fit outs including retail stores, food courts, back of house areas and main corridors. Ever wondered who paints the walls above the escalator in a mall? Well, that will be CPL! Everywhere we went to work – there was a Spark store. These stores are open, inviting and have a fantastic colour scheme – none better that Spark Halo 277 Broadway. With its huge black ceiling covered in plant life to its concrete look walls with pink back-lit LED signage.

During the Covid lockdown of 2020 many large retail stores and services were closed to the public. This gave the owners an opportunity to do some much needed maintenance and freshening up. CPL had quoted painting work at Dressmart for years but the constraints of shopping hours made it difficult to find a window to carry out the work. With the shops empty and the streets cleared, CPL had the “run of the mill” to complete the project. CPL washed, prepared and painted the entire exterior of the Dressmart Onehunga during the lockdown. CPL utilised a number of different elevating work platforms (EWPs) machines to complete all the height work. Dressmart Onehunga now looks smart!

Countdown Henderson was a flagship project for CPL in 2021 as a large and prominent building in Henderson’s Lincoln Rd. The colour scheme was to be changed to a new Countdown Green and a multitude of greys in vertical stripes. Painting Farro and Subway Lunn Ave, Mt Wellington was a complicated undertaking. CPL had to work in between showers in the Auckland climate at a busy little shopping complex. We used cones and bollards to paint small areas at a time, minimising the impact on the staff and clients of the retails stores.

After a structural upgrade, the shopping centre exterior needed a visual update. CPL worked with the property manager to treat rust, fill cracks, polish steel and apply a 2 pack coating to high wear areas. This approach minimises the need for ongoing maintenance while maximising the performance of the paint.

In 2018 CPL was asked to be part of an upgrade project for St John Ambulance Service. We painted the interior and exterior of many stations in Auckland. Working around paramedics really showed us how hard they work to help people in need. They really are heroes!

Helius Therapeutics is one of New Zealand’s first commercial cannabis farms. They grow the cannabis indoors to produce legal medical products. It’s a highly secretive and hygienic space to work in. CPL were engaged to carry out some back of house painting for Sky City. Under the hotel and casino there is a network of corridors and staff rooms, locker rooms, kitchen, laundries and storage. We painted the back of house corridor walls and doors in conjunction with the floor layers and suspended ceiling tilers. We received great positive feedback from the Sky City team.

CPL was engaged to paint the interior of Clarence Boutique Hotel, Bistro and Restaurant. This property is a heritage site. It was the old Tauranga Post Office. Upstairs are the rooms; each room has a different colour palate. One room even has a bank vault for its bathroom. Black accents throughout on the old steel features, stained and varnished timbers brightened up with some exciting patterned wall paper. Downstairs a bistro and bar to enjoy 5-star meals and a good night out.
